Street racing - a prohibited form of car racing that takes place on public roads.
Street racing is ancient and took place long before the automobile, but car racing began the moment the second vehicle was invented!
The roots of modern road racing can be found on Woodward Avenue in Michigan in the 1960s, when the big three American car companies were producing high-performance cars in Detroit. Since a private race track was not always available, the races were held illegally on public roads.
